Shriya Saran also known by the mononym Shriya, is an Indian film actress, model and host. She is noted for working in mulitple of the regional industries of Indian cinema, appearing in several mainstream Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films, as well as a few films in English, Malayalam and Kannada.
Shriya Saran is born on September 11th, 1982 at Dehradun, India. And she was brought up in Ranipur, a few miles from Haridwar.
She is second child to Pushpendra Saran and Neeraja Saran. Her father Pushpendra Saran was a worker at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and her mother is a school teacher. She has an elder brother Abhiroop.
Shriya Saran completed her schooling from Delhi Public School, Haridwar and later studied at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi and received a B. A. degree.
While studying her second year at the LSR College in Delhi, Saran got her first opportunity to appear in front of the camera. She eventually quit her studies to participate for the shoot. Following her dance teacher's recommendation, she was given the chance to appear in the music video of Reenu Nathan's Tirakthi Kyon Hawa.
Shriya Saran started her acting career with the Telugu film Ishtam in 2001, produced by Usha Kiran Movies. The film didn't fare well at the box office, but she was noticed by many Telugu producers and directors. Soon she signed for Nagarjuna's Santosham in 2002, which was a major hit. Her portrayal of Bhanu won appreciation from critics and audience alike.
Subsequently, she appeared in several Telugu films with prominent actors, while also making in-roads in the Hindi film industry as well as the Tamil film industry.
In 2003, Saran's debut Hindi film Tujhe Meri Kasam, starring debutants Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza in lead.The movie garnered poor box office returns and failed to propel her career in Bollywood.
The 5 feet 8.5 inches hight of Shriya made her Tamil film debut in Enakku 20 Unakku 18, again alongside Tarun and Trisha Krishnan.
In 2007, Shriya Saran became a national figure after her performance alongside Rajinikanth in "Sivaji: The Boss", after which she has signed several Hindi, Tamil and also a Hollywood film.
She has since appeared in films such as Azhagiya Tamil Magan and Kanthaswamy in Tamil and appeared in high budget Hindi pictures such as Mission Istanbul, roles which have established her as one of the leading actresses in the South Indian film industry.
In 11th January 2008, a Hindu organisation based in Chennai lodged a police complaint against Saran, objecting to the outfit worn by her during the 175th day celebration of her film, Sivaji: The Boss. In a complaint, the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) alleged that Shriya's outfit had 'offended Hindu culture'.The complaint was officially taken in by the police and is currently under investigation. Shriya then tendered an unconditional apology for “wearing inappropriate skimpy attire”.
Shriya also played the lead role in an American-Indian crossover film, Ashok Amritraj's The Other End of the Line. She played the role of Priya Sethi who works as a telephone operator in an India Call Centre, while acting alongside Jesse Metcalfe, Anupham Kher and Tara Sharma. Shriya's performance was praised by critic, particularly her on-screen chemistry with Jesse Metcalfe.

Shriya is very close friend to top heroines Reema Sen and often parties together. She attended recently a Private Party with SReema Sen in Mumbai. She is seen Drunk dancing and goofing around with her friends in the flat.
Shriya has also featured as the brand ambassador for several stores across India appearing for prominent beauty and health products. Furthermore her work as a philanthropist has seen her being attached to noted charity organisations whilst she has recently pledged to open a spa for the visually challenged.
Shriya's impending marriage with Rajiv Mallu, her long-time boyfriend. It was no secret in Tollywood that Shriya and Rajiv were seeing each other for a long time. The cozy two-some were a regular thing in many chic parties in the high brow circuit of Hyderabad.
Shriya and her boyfriend Rajiv Mallu were spotted holidaying in Hong Kong recently. They've been seeing each other for years now, yet Shriya continues to say "We are just friends." so typical of filmi types.
